When you start a new canvas you come across the first limitation of Paint Tool SAI, it only allows a canvas of maximum 10000px, which if you like working really really big can be a little lackluster, but unless you need to work that big for example because you want to print it on something huge, with somewhat like 5500px square you are more than ready to go. You can change the order and even add downloaded custom brushes with just a little tweaking of files and folders. Creating a tool is also quite straightforward, and when you create one it appears directly as the last item in the list. Paint Tool SAI is that simple to use and set. You are getting a quite lightweight program with a simple interface with a, in my opinion, low learning curve. But let’s say you are using your free trial to get used to it, before deciding if the investment is worth it… I’ll try to be honest with this, at this price, and given the features of both CSP and SAI, I’d take Clip Studio Paint with a discount hands down. Purchasing a license costs 5400JPY, which would translate to something like $50 or somewhat like 45€.

You can try it for free for 31 days, then you can’t load or save, which means technically disabling it. This has advantages and disadvantages, which I’ll try to bring in this review.

Paint Tool SAI is a very good drawing and painting program. The drawing software I’m going to review today is Paint Tool SAI (website: probably not very known amongst the Western digital artists, but quite used in Japan, at least before the irruption of Clip Studio Paint, at least that I’m aware of.
